Bihar: Patna and Nalanda Report Highest Number of Marital Disputes; Women’s Commission Overburdened With Complaints

Patna:
The Bihar State Women’s Commission (BSCW) is grappling with an overwhelming rise in complaints—primarily involving marital disputes. Data shows that Patna (5,643 cases) and Nalanda (3,452 cases) account for the highest number of grievances, contributing nearly 90% of complaints received weekly by the Commission. Most cases relate to domestic violence, marital discord, and severe family conflicts, putting tremendous pressure on the Commission’s limited resources.

‘Aayog Aapke Dwaar’: Justice Delivered at the Doorstep

To ensure faster and more effective redressal, the Commission has introduced an innovative initiative called “Aayog Aapke Dwaar” (Commission at Your Doorstep). Under this program, Commission teams visit the complainant’s residence to conduct hearings, calling the opposing party as well for counselling and resolution.

This approach aims to simplify the process, offer convenience to women in distress, and reduce case disposal time. The Commission has set an ambitious target to resolve cases within one week after the initial 21-day period, marking a significant step toward delivering timely justice.

Surge Due to Online Complaint System

The spike in reported cases is largely attributed to the Commission’s adoption of a robust online complaint platform, which has made it easier for women to file grievances. This digital shift has improved accessibility, transparency, and trust—bringing more women forward to seek official intervention.

The increase in online reporting reflects both the prevalence of domestic conflicts and the growing public confidence in the Commission’s ability to address such issues.

A Vital Role in Resolving Domestic Disputes

Despite the concerning concentration of cases in Patna and Nalanda, the Commission’s proactive measures demonstrate its evolving strategy to tackle region-specific challenges. Initiatives like Aayog Aapke Dwaar and the online filing system are empowering women to voice their struggles and receive timely support.

The Bihar State Women’s Commission continues to play a pivotal role in offering relief, mediation, and justice—giving many women a renewed platform to raise their voices and seek resolution.
