Patna: In a shocking incident from Bihar’s capital, a young man who had come to meet his minor girlfriend in a village under the Dhanarua police station area of Patna was allegedly caught by villagers and forced into marriage.
According to sources, the boy, aged 19, and the girl, aged 15, had been in a relationship for the past one year. The matter took a dramatic turn on Sunday when the युवक reached the girl’s village to meet her, following which villagers and family members reportedly caught them red-handed.
Marriage Conducted Under Threat of Violence
Eyewitness accounts suggest that the villagers threatened the couple with assault and forced them into a room, where the marriage rituals were conducted against their will. The incident has created panic and intense discussion in the village.
The couple was reportedly known in the area as they often met along the Patna-Gaya four-lane highway, which had already drawn the attention of local residents.
Police Action After Dial 112 Call
Soon after the forced marriage, the boy’s family informed the police by calling Dial 112. Acting swiftly, the police reached the spot, controlled the situation, and brought the newly-married couple to the police station.
Police officials are now questioning both families and collecting statements to understand the full sequence of events.
Child Marriage Case: Legal Action Likely
Dhanarua Station House Officer Amit Kumar confirmed that the girl is only 15 years old, making the marriage illegal under Indian law.
“The case is serious as it involves child marriage and forced marriage. We are examining all legal aspects. Strict action will be taken as per law,” the SHO stated.
Investigation Underway
Police have taken the couple into custody for their safety and are investigating the role of villagers and family members in forcing the marriage. Authorities have indicated that those responsible may face strict legal consequences under child marriage prevention laws.
