Bihar: Licensed Pistol Goes Missing from Police Station, SP Orders Suspension and Inquiry

Katihar, Bihar: Panic erupted in Katihar after a licensed pistol, deposited at a local police station during the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections, mysteriously went missing. Superintendent of Police (SP) Shikhar Chaudhary has taken swift action, suspending Station In-Charge Anand Kumar and initiating a departmental inquiry against three other officers over the serious lapse.

Pistol Missing from Police Vault
During the elections, the police administration had collected licensed firearms from citizens under strict security protocols to ensure peaceful polling. Chandrashekhar Singh had deposited his licensed pistol at the assistant police station in Katihar as per Election Commission guidelines. However, when he approached the station to retrieve it after voting and counting were complete, he was shocked to learn that the pistol was missing. The incident raises serious concerns about security procedures within the station itself.

Station In-Charge Suspended
SP Shikhar Chaudhary immediately demanded explanations from Station In-Charge Anand Kumar and two other officers. Finding their responses unsatisfactory, the SP suspended Anand Kumar with immediate effect and ordered a stringent departmental inquiry against the three officials.

Special Investigation Team Formed
Acknowledging the gravity of a firearm going missing from a supposedly secure facility, SP Chaudhary stated that a special investigation team, led by the SDPO of Sadar, has been constituted to probe the matter thoroughly. Police officials emphasized that this is not just a case of a missing weapon, but a serious example of on-duty negligence. Once the inquiry is completed, strict legal and departmental action will be taken against those found responsible.
