Bihar Legislative Council in Turmoil: Minister Ashok Chaudhary and Sunil Singh Clash, Opposition Marshalled Out

Patna: The Bihar Legislative Council witnessed another day of chaos as tensions between the ruling party and opposition escalated. The ruling side accused a Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) member of verbally abusing Rural Development Minister Ashok Chaudhary. Amid uproar over remarks made about former Chief Minister Rabri Devi and alleged disrespect towards a Dalit minister, the Council Chairman ordered opposition members to be marshalled out for the entire day.

Heated Exchange Between Minister and RJD Member
The proceedings turned confrontational immediately after the session began. Opposition members demanded an apology from the Chief Minister over comments made about Rabri Devi. The situation intensified when Minister Ashok Chaudhary and RJD MLC Sunil Singh engaged in a sharp verbal confrontation. According to the ruling party, the exchange escalated into personal attacks and abusive language, repeatedly disrupting the house proceedings. Observing the rising tension, Chairman Awadhesh Narayan Singh took strict action, ordering the unruly opposition members to be removed from the chamber.

Dalit Minister Targeted, Claims Industry Minister
Bihar Industry Minister Dilip Jaiswal expressed strong condemnation of the incident. He alleged that the RJD member used objectionable language targeting a minister from the Dalit community—remarks too offensive to be publicly repeated. Jaiswal described the episode as an insult to the “temple of democracy” and demanded that the video footage be examined and strict action taken against the accused member, including a public apology.

Chairman Vows Strict Action, Cites Supreme Court Precedents
Chairman Awadhesh Narayan Singh emphasized that the dignity of the Council would not be compromised. He assured that the entire matter would be investigated, and appropriate action would be taken in accordance with relevant Supreme Court judgments. For the time being, the opposition members involved have been suspended from the house for the day, further heightening tensions between the government and the opposition.
