Arrah (Bhojpur): In a major breakthrough under the ongoing anti-liquor drive ordered by District Magistrate Tanay Sultanian, the Excise Department seized 489.120 litres of illegal foreign liquor worth nearly ₹6 lakh from a Bolero pickup van near the Koilwar overbridge. The liquor was being smuggled from Uttar Pradesh into Bihar.
Smugglers’ New Trick Startles Officers
Despite Bihar’s strict prohibition laws, liquor smugglers continue to innovate. This time, officials were stunned to discover a hidden underground chamber ingeniously crafted beneath the cargo bed of a pickup van.
The Excise Department received secret information that a large consignment of foreign liquor was heading from Uttar Pradesh towards Arrah. Acting on the tip-off, Assistant Commissioner Excise Rajneesh formed a special team led by Inspector Prakash Chandra.
Search Operation at Koilwar Overbridge
During routine vehicle checking near the Koilwar overbridge under Koilwar police station, the team intercepted a suspicious Bolero pickup (registration BR03GB-9078).
On inspecting the vehicle closely, officials uncovered a cleverly concealed secret compartment. Inside it, they found a massive stock of smuggled foreign liquor being transported illegally into Bihar.
Liquor Seized & One Arrested
The driver, Pintu Kumar Tiwari (son of Kanhaiya Tiwari, resident of Kanha Chapra, Bhojpur), was arrested on the spot. He has been sent to judicial custody for further legal action.
The seized liquor included:
- 1248 bottles of 8 PM Special Green Whisky (180 ml)
- 336 bottles of Dark Blue Rare Grand Whisky (180 ml)
- 408 cans of Kingfisher Extra Special Strong Beer (500 ml)
The total quantity confiscated was 489.120 litres, with an estimated value of ₹6 lakh.
