Bihar Government Takes Strict Action Against Fertilizer Black Marketing: FIRs Filed on 47 Shops, Licenses of 124 Revoked

Patna: In a major crackdown on fertilizer black marketing, hoarding, and overpricing, the Bihar government has registered FIRs against 47 fertilizer outlets. Additionally, the licenses of 124 establishments have been canceled, sending shockwaves through the state’s fertilizer trade.

The strict action comes as part of the government’s ongoing efforts to ensure that farmers have access to fertilizers at fair prices during the Rabi season. The Agriculture Department has intensified monitoring, and any outlet found involved in black marketing or hoarding will face legal action immediately.

No Shortage of Fertilizers
Despite the crackdown, the government has assured that there is no shortage of fertilizers in the state. Current stock levels include 1.60 lakh metric tons of urea, 1.45 lakh metric tons of DAP, 2.06 lakh metric tons of NPK, 0.43 lakh metric tons of MOP, and 1.05 lakh metric tons of SSP, sufficient to meet farmers’ needs.

Flying Squad Teams in Action
To regulate supply and distribution, the government has formed “Flying Squad” teams that will carry out regular inspections and raids based on complaints. Agriculture Minister Ramkripal Yadav has directed district officials to actively monitor fertilizer outlets, prevent overpricing, and ensure compliance with distribution rules. Special inspection teams have also been deployed in border districts to curb cross-border fertilizer smuggling in coordination with the armed border forces.

Ban on Forced Product Tagging
The state government has also targeted the malpractices of fertilizer companies pressuring retailers to bundle subsidized fertilizers with other products. Such forced tagging has been deemed a serious violation of regulations. Under the state’s zero-tolerance policy, the Agriculture Department has issued clear instructions prohibiting any form of mandatory product bundling with subsidized fertilizers like urea, DAP, NPK, and MOP. Violations will not be tolerated under any circumstances.

The government’s decisive measures aim to safeguard farmers’ interests, maintain fair pricing, and eliminate malpractices in Bihar’s fertilizer market.
