Patna: The investigation into the suspicious death of a NEET aspirant at a private girls’ hostel in Patna will now be conducted by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The Bihar government, under Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, has recommended a CBI inquiry into the case.
In a formal letter to the Union Government, CM Nitish Kumar requested a transparent, impartial, and fair investigation to ensure justice for the victim’s family and remove any scope for doubt at any level.
CBI Investigation Confirmed
Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister Samrat Chaudhary confirmed that CM Nitish Kumar has sought a CBI probe into the student’s death. He assured that the investigation would be conducted in a transparent and fair manner.
Tejashwi Yadav Criticizes Government
Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav strongly reacted to the government’s decision in the Assembly. Posting on social media platform X, he alleged that instead of investigating the alleged sexual assault and murder, the Bihar government outsourced the case to the CBI, exposing the administrative system as corrupt, inefficient, and unprofessional.
Tejashwi further stated that in previous cases such as the Navaruna incident, the CBI failed to apprehend the accused for 12–13 years and even closed investigations. He questioned the accountability of the government for Bihar’s weak and corrupt law-and-order system, asking whether headline management would be used to distract attention from this case.
Student Preparing for NEET at Girls’ Hostel
The incident occurred at a girls’ hostel in Patna, where the student from Jehanabad district was residing while preparing for NEET exams. From the beginning, questions have been raised regarding her death. While her family claims it was a planned murder, the police initially suggested it was a suicide. This discrepancy has made the case particularly sensitive and contentious.
