Bihar Government Offers Easy Solution for Men Who Received Jeevika Funds by Mistake

Patna: The Bihar government has come up with a practical solution for men whose bank accounts mistakenly received ₹10,000 under the Chief Minister’s Women Employment Scheme, Jeevika. Instead of demanding repayment, the government has offered a hassle-free way to adjust the funds.

Government’s Offer
According to Himanshu Sharma, CEO of Bihar Jeevika, out of 70 reported cases from Darbhanga, 12 men were notified to either return the money or transfer it to a female family member’s account. The government has clarified that no action will be taken against recipients, ensuring they face no inconvenience. The suggested solution is simple: the mistakenly received amount can be applied under Jeevika through a female family member, effectively adjusting the funds in the right name.

Joint Accounts Caused Some Confusion
Sharma added that apart from 470 cases involving differently-abled individuals, most errors were minor. Some cases involved joint husband-and-wife bank accounts, which led to confusion, but the money technically reached the correct household.

Relief for Beneficiaries
Men who received the funds expressed relief after official guidance. Nagendra Ram from Darbhanga said, “Initially we were worried, but now we have been assured that a female family member can adjust the amount under Jeevika.” Similarly, Balram Sahni added, “We thought the money had been correctly deposited. Now I am asking a female member of my family to apply so that the ₹10,000 is adjusted appropriately.”

This approach by the Nitish Kumar government ensures that Jeevika funds reach the intended beneficiaries without creating unnecessary complications for those who received them by mistake.
