Bihar Government Cracks Down on Obscene and Double-Meaning Songs in Public Spaces

Patna: The Bihar government has taken a firm stance against the playing of obscene or double-meaning songs in public spaces and vehicles, including buses, trains, auto-rickshaws, and taxis. Home Minister Samrat Chaudhary has directed authorities to take strict action against offenders, warning that violations could lead to fines and imprisonment.

Action Following Disturbing Incidents
The decision comes in the wake of the tragic death of a NEET aspirant at Shambhu Girls Hostel in Patna, which prompted heightened scrutiny of women’s safety. In response, the government has not only recommended a CBI investigation into the incident but also launched a campaign to prevent displays of obscenity targeting women in public spaces.

Protecting Women and Public Morality
Reports indicate that drivers in public vehicles, or passengers themselves, often play double-meaning or obscene songs—especially Bhojpuri tracks—on music systems or mobile devices, creating uncomfortable and embarrassing situations for female passengers. Such behavior is also common at bus stops and other public places. The Bihar Home Ministry has now announced zero tolerance for these actions.

Home Minister Samrat Chaudhary emphasized that obscene content in public spaces negatively impacts society and undermines women’s dignity and safety. He further warned that these songs can adversely influence children’s thoughts and behavior. “This will not be tolerated under any circumstances,” he stated.

Police to Enforce Strict Measures
All police officers in the state have been instructed to monitor public vehicles, railway stations, bus stops, and other public areas. Those found violating the directives will face strict legal action, including fines and potential imprisonment. Special campaigns will be conducted to ensure compliance and protect public decency.
