Patna, Bihar: The Bihar government has announced stringent measures to curb land-related fraud in the state. Individuals involved in creating or presenting fake land documents will now face mandatory registration of a First Information Report (FIR) and, if convicted, a prison term of up to seven years. Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha unveiled the plan, emphasizing the administration’s resolve to eliminate fraudulent practices in land transactions.
Major Announcement in the Assembly
During the budget discussion for the Revenue and Land Reforms Department on Friday, Deputy CM Sinha made the landmark declaration. The department’s budget of ₹21.90 billion was unanimously approved by the House, although opposition parties staged a walkout, expressing dissatisfaction with the government’s response.
‘Jankalyan Samvad’ to Reach District Level
Sinha also highlighted that the “Bhoomi Sudhar Jankalyan Samvad,” which began at the division level on 12 December, will now be conducted at the district level. This initiative aims to provide on-the-spot resolution for cases related to land records, corrections, and measurements. The government is also preparing new guidelines to ensure permanent solutions for recurring land-related issues.
Expansion of Departmental Staff
The Deputy CM announced that recruitment for 16,584 positions within the department is ongoing in multiple phases. Additionally, 3,303 new posts for revenue employees have been created, raising the total number of sanctioned positions to 11,775, with around 3,767 currently in service.
With this decisive move, Bihar aims to clamp down on fraudulent land dealings and strengthen governance in land administration, sending a clear message to potential offenders.
