
Patna, Bihar: Farmers in Bihar who suffered crop damage due to the Cyclone Montha and untimely rains in October are set to receive government compensation. The announcement comes as a major relief for the affected farmers.
Agriculture Minister Ramkripal Yadav Announces Relief
On Wednesday, Agriculture Minister Ramkripal Yadav stated that farmers in 12 districts whose farmland was damaged by heavy rainfall, floods, or the Montha cyclone will receive agricultural input subsidies based on the type and quality of their land. These subsidies will be provided at three different rates according to the extent of damage.
According to a government release, crop damage surveys and assessments have been completed in 39 blocks and 397 panchayats across the affected districts. Minister Yadav confirmed that the government has decided to disburse subsidies to eligible farmers at the earliest. “The farmland of these farmers has suffered extensive damage, and the government is committed to providing relief,” he said.
How Farmers Can Claim Compensation
Minister Yadav urged eligible farmers to complete their online registration on the department’s website (dbtagriculture.bihar.gov.in) by December 2, 2025, to avail of the subsidy.
Subsidy Details
- For rainfed unirrigated land, farmers will receive ₹8,500 per hectare (up to 2 hectares).
- For irrigated land, the subsidy will be ₹17,000 per hectare (up to 2 hectares).
- For multi-crop land, including sugarcane cultivation, farmers will receive ₹22,500 per hectare (up to 2 hectares).
Additionally, small and marginal farmers will receive minimum subsidy rates of:
- ₹1,000 per hectare for unirrigated land
- ₹2,000 per hectare for irrigated land
- ₹2,500 per hectare for multi-crop land
Districts Covered
The 12 affected districts include Begusarai, East Champaran, Kaimur, Madhubani, Kishanganj, Gaya, Bhojpur, Madhepura, Darbhanga, Muzaffarpur, Shivhar, and Supaul. Minister Yadav emphasized that providing compensation to farmers affected by natural disasters is a key priority of the government.
