Bihar Fake ‘Police-Mitra’ Recruitment Scam: Key Accused Arrested, Gang Leader Named; Operations Across Patna to Samastipur

Motihari, Bihar: The Bihar Police have cracked a scam in which unemployed youth were defrauded in the name of recruitment for the ‘Police-Mitra’ program. At least 25 job-seekers from East Champaran fell victim to the fraudulent gang, which promised lucrative jobs and fake training sessions. Following the arrest of one accused, police have identified the gang leader and launched a wide-ranging operation across multiple districts.

Gang Leader and Arrests
Two members of the gang, Ashraf Kamal from Chiraia, Motihari, and Vineet Kumar from Muzaffarpur, have been arrested. During interrogation, police obtained crucial information that led them to the gang’s mastermind, Ashok Samrat, a resident of Samastipur. Ashok Samrat, along with his accomplices Dharmendra Kumar and Rakesh Kumar, has been orchestrating the scam across various districts of Bihar.

Bounty Announced
East Champaran Superintendent of Police Swarn Prabhat confirmed that a reward of ₹15,000 has been declared for Ashok Samrat, while Dharmendra and Rakesh have been assigned ₹10,000 each. Authorities have assured that informants’ identities will remain confidential.

Modus Operandi
According to police, unemployed youth were lured with promises of a monthly salary of ₹16,000 under the guise of an NGO. The gang charged fees ranging from ₹25,000 to ₹45,000 for fake Police-Mitra placements and organized sham training sessions in Muzaffarpur, Saran, and Patna to maintain the illusion of legitimacy.

SIT Raids Underway
The East Champaran police have formed four Special Investigation Teams (SITs) to investigate the scam. The teams are conducting raids across Muzaffarpur, Patna, East Champaran, Rohtas, Chhapra, and Samastipur to apprehend gang members. Authorities are also probing potential involvement of certain police officials and individuals linked to digital media businesses.

This operation underscores Bihar Police’s commitment to cracking down on fraudulent recruitment networks exploiting vulnerable youth.
