
In a swift anti-corruption action in Bihar’s Nalanda district, a local government employee was caught red-handed accepting a bribe of ₹4,500 while allegedly harassing a farmer over land mutation procedures.
Employee Arrested by Vigilance Team
The vigilance department arrested Sanjay Kumar, a Halka employee posted at the Karaiparsurai Sub-Division Office, on Thursday. Sanjay Kumar had demanded a total bribe of ₹5,000 from complainant Ramesh Kumar of Salem Pur village to process the mutation (land transfer) for 1.5 kathas of his land. The first installment of ₹500 had already been paid on Wednesday.
Following this, Ramesh Kumar lodged a written complaint at the Patna Vigilance Office, prompting a planned sting operation.
Caught Red-Handed Near Diwan Village
Acting on the complaint, the vigilance team set up a trap near a bridge in Diwan village, Karaiparsurai. When Sanjay Kumar collected the remaining ₹4,500 installment from Ramesh Kumar, the team immediately apprehended him. The seized cash was officially sealed as evidence.
Employee Taken to Patna for Interrogation
Sanjay Kumar has been taken to Patna for detailed questioning. The vigilance department confirmed that appropriate legal action would be taken against him following the investigation. The incident has caused shockwaves among other employees at the Karaiparsurai Sub-Division Office.
