Aurangabad, Bihar | December 15, 2025
The Bihar Education Department has landed in controversy after an official letter issued by a Block Education Officer (BEO) in Aurangabad district was found to be riddled with spelling and grammatical errors. The letter, meant to convey important administrative instructions, contains more than a dozen mistakes despite being only a 10-point document. Images of the letter have gone viral on social media, triggering sharp criticism of the department’s functioning and seriousness.
Shockingly, even basic Hindi words were misspelled in the official communication. Words such as “samay” (time) were written as “samas”, “nireekshan” (inspection) as “nirikshan”, “soochna” (information) as “suchna”, “vipreet” (opposite) as “viprit”, “vyavastha” (system) as “vyavasth”, and “gunwatta” (quality) as “gunwata”. Observers have remarked that such errors are unacceptable and would not be expected even from a primary school student, let alone a senior education officer.
The incident has raised serious questions about the competence, accountability, and sensitivity of officials working in one of the most crucial departments of the state. Education officials are responsible for overseeing teachers, school administration, and academic standards. When an official order itself is full of errors, critics argue, it reflects poorly on the department’s commitment to quality and discipline.
Teachers, speaking on condition of anonymity, alleged that such negligence is not an isolated issue. Several claimed that block-level education officials are quick to harass teachers, frequently threatening salary stoppages over minor issues. Some teachers further alleged that bribes are demanded for approving maternity leave and clearing pending salaries, and those who refuse to pay are deliberately harassed.
A teacher from Buxar district stated that a thorough audit of Block Education Officer and District Education Officer offices would expose widespread irregularities. “If these offices are investigated properly, the reality of how things function will come out,” he said.
According to reports, the controversial letter was issued on December 12, 2025, and referred to a review meeting organized by the District Education Officer. However, the large number of spelling and typographical errors overshadowed the content of the letter and exposed what many see as deep-rooted administrative apathy.
Public reaction on social media has been scathing. Users have mocked the education department and questioned how officials responsible for monitoring schools and teachers can issue such poorly drafted communications. Many also linked the incident to long-standing allegations of corruption, lack of transparency, and neglect of teachers’ grievances within the department.
Critics say the viral letter is not just a mistake but a symbol of the broader decay in the education administration. Allegations of corruption in promotions, misuse of school funds, and pressure to work with favored vendors have surfaced repeatedly. The letter, they argue, is merely a glimpse into a system plagued by inefficiency and indifference.
As the controversy grows, there are increasing demands for accountability and strict action against negligent officials to restore public trust in the Bihar Education Department.
