Bihar: DM Richa Pandey Launches ‘Operation Clinic’ in Sitamarhi; Two More Illegal Clinics Sealed

Sitamarhi: The Sitamarhi district administration has intensified its crackdown on illegal clinics and nursing homes. Under the direction of District Magistrate Richa Pandey, a fresh round of inspections on Wednesday evening led to the sealing of two more unauthorized clinics operating in the city.

One of the clinics was sealed after officials rescued a patient who had just undergone an operation. The patient was immediately shifted to Sadar Hospital. The second clinic was shut down following allegations that a woman had died during surgery conducted there.

Sitamarhi No Longer a Safe Haven for Illegal Clinics

Sitamarhi, once considered a “safe hub” for unauthorized medical setups, is witnessing unprecedented administrative action. Continuous raids have sparked fear among illegal operators, yet several remain brazen and continue to run unlicensed facilities—often risking patients’ lives for profit.

According to officials, many such centres employ hired or unqualified doctors, while some are run by individuals without any medical degree. Nepal-bordering towns reportedly have the highest density of such illegal nursing homes.

Despite sealing two to three illegal units every month, the administration admits that the entire network has not yet been dismantled.

Fresh Raids Lead to Escape Attempts

Acting on DM Pandey’s orders, a team led by Acting Civil Surgeon Dr. Z. Javed, along with Dumra PHC in-charge Akshay Kumar, Sadar Hospital Deputy Superintendent Dr. Mukesh Kumar, and Punoura police, conducted raids across the city.

As news of the inspections spread, several clinic operators quickly downed shutters and fled.
At one illegal clinic, a post-surgery patient was found without proper medical supervision. The team rescued the patient and shifted him to Sadar Hospital before sealing the premises. The doctors and staff managed to escape.

Death During Surgery Prompts Strict Action

Another major action followed a complaint filed by Prem Kumar of Belsand, whose sister Jyoti Kumari—referred to Sadar Hospital—was allegedly diverted by brokers to an illegal clinic. She tragically died during surgery.

Following the complaint, officials raided the Bhavya Clinic near Paswan Chowk. By the time the team arrived, the staff had already fled. The clinic was sealed immediately.

‘No One Will Be Spared’: Administration Warns

The district administration has made it clear that strict legal action will continue against anyone involved in running unauthorized medical establishments.

This renewed crackdown under “Operation Clinic” aims to eliminate illegal healthcare practices and ensure that no unlicensed operator escapes accountability.
