Patna: The internal turmoil within the Bihar unit of the Indian National Congress continues after the party’s poor performance in the Bihar Assembly Elections 2025. In a major disciplinary move, the Congress has expelled two senior leaders—Chhatrapati Yadav and Anand Madhav—from the party for a period of six years.
The action has reportedly been taken for allegedly indulging in anti-party activities, issuing repeated statements against the party leadership, and making serious allegations that were seen as damaging to the organisation’s image and discipline.
Congress Confirms Disciplinary Action
The expulsion was confirmed on Wednesday by Rajesh Rathore, President of the Bihar Congress Media Department. He stated that the decision was taken by the State Disciplinary Committee due to the leaders’ continuous “unwanted and objectionable” remarks.
According to Rathore, the repeated public statements by the two leaders were intended to create confusion among party workers and weaken the party’s fundamental principles and organisational dignity.
“Both leaders had been issuing press statements at regular intervals against the party leadership for several months. The party considered it a clear violation of discipline, and therefore they have been expelled for six years,” Rathore said.
Leaders Question Authority of Disciplinary Committee
However, both expelled leaders have strongly questioned the legitimacy of the disciplinary action. They argued that the State Disciplinary Committee was not formed in accordance with the party constitution and therefore does not have the authority to expel an AICC member.
They further claimed that only the party high command has the power to remove members from the Congress.
Allegations After Congress Defeat in Bihar Elections
Following the Bihar Assembly elections, the Congress had contested 70 seats but managed to win only 19. Soon after the defeat, Chhatrapati Yadav and Anand Madhav began publicly accusing several senior leaders, including the Bihar Congress President and in-charge Krishna Allavaru.
The two leaders alleged that party tickets were “sold” and that candidates were selected through a “pick-and-choose” method, claims which created significant controversy within the party.
Who Are Chhatrapati Yadav and Anand Madhav?
Chhatrapati Yadav is a former Congress MLA who won the Khagaria Assembly seat in the 2020 Bihar elections. He is also the son of senior Congress leader Rajendra Prasad Yadav. He was reportedly denied a ticket in the 2025 Assembly elections.
Anand Madhav, on the other hand, has served as the former chairman of the Congress research wing and has also been associated with the party as a spokesperson.
Political Impact
The expulsion of two prominent leaders is being seen as a significant step by the Bihar Congress to enforce discipline and prevent internal dissent from further weakening the party ahead of future political challenges.
