Patna:
The Bihar Assembly’s budget session commenced on Monday, 2 February 2026, with Governor Arif Mohammad Khan delivering his address in the Central Hall. The session saw a dramatic start as Leader of the Opposition Tejashwi Yadav attended despite a leg injury, arriving in a wheelchair—a move that drew attention and support from his party members.
A video circulating on social media shows Tejashwi Yadav being assisted by fellow legislators and security personnel as his wheelchair is pushed into the Assembly. At certain steps, police officers lifted him along with the wheelchair to ensure his entry. Speaking about his injury, Tejashwi mentioned, “My toenail came off. Such things sometimes happen.” His presence in the House, despite the health setback, is seen as a morale booster for the opposition.
Governor’s Address and Economic Survey
The formal proceedings began with the Governor’s address. Following this, the state government is expected to lay the Economic Survey on the Assembly table, detailing Bihar’s current financial status and development achievements over the past year.
Opposition Outrage Over NEET Student Case
Before the official proceedings could progress, the Assembly premises witnessed significant unrest. Opposition legislators strongly protested the recent rape and death of a NEET student in Patna, demanding swift justice. Congress MLA Kamrul Hoda was seen holding posters demanding attention to the case. Opposition members have urged that the matter receive prominence in the Governor’s address.
The session reflects both the political and social tensions in Bihar, with the opposition pressing for accountability and justice on sensitive issues, while also participating in formal budgetary discussions.
