Patna, Feb 13, 2026: The Bihar Legislative Assembly and Legislative Council witnessed a stormy session on Friday, with opposition leaders grilling the government over rising crimes, student deaths, and teachers’ transfer issues. The tense proceedings highlighted sharp exchanges between senior leaders, with former CM Rabri Devi taking the government to task.
Rabri Devi Targets Samrat Chaudhary
In the Legislative Council, Rabri Devi did not hold back while criticizing Samrat Chaudhary. She said, “Samrat Chaudhary claims he will catch criminals within 24 hours and ensure punishment, or resign. Yet, crimes continue unabated. Every day, incidents of rape and murder are reported.”
Fulwarisharif Student Death Sparks Debate
Rabri Devi also raised the alleged murder of a student in Fulwarisharif, who reportedly fell from a hostel roof. She described it as a failure of the government’s system, not just an accident. The incident triggered protests near Patna AIIMS, with former MLA Gopal Ravidas joining the demonstrators.
Ashok Chaudhary Fires Back
Defending the government, Minister Ashok Chaudhary addressed the media outside the assembly, stating, “Rabri Devi wants Samrat to sink and me to die. But thankfully, it hasn’t happened. She should remember her own tenure, when over 100 massacres occurred and people fled Bihar for safety. Under Nitish Kumar, the state has become secure and fear-free.”
BJP MLC Questions Own Government
The ruling NDA faced an awkward moment when BJP MLC Professor Naval Kishore Yadav raised concerns about irregularities in school bench-desk procurement. Highlighting corruption in Islampur, Nalanda, he demanded a high-level inquiry, implicating the DEO and headmasters in the malpractices.
Women Teachers’ Transfers Highlighted
Rabri Devi further stressed that transfer policies are causing difficulties for female teachers, who are forced to leave their families behind for remote postings. She demanded that women teachers be posted within their home districts to ease their hardships.
The session made it clear that rising crime, student safety, and systemic issues in education remain pressing concerns for Bihar, with leaders trading sharp words and citizens demanding accountability.
