Bihar: 11-Day Leave, Living Alone, and a Demand for ₹10 Lakh — The Mystery Behind Deputy Jailor’s Wife’s Death

Samastipur: The mystery surrounding the suspicious death of Deputy Jailor Nandu Chaudhary’s wife, Shweta, in Samastipur is deepening. So far, the accused — Nandu, his mother-in-law, and father-in-law — remain absconding. Several questions about the case remain unresolved.

Shweta, originally from Agamkuan in Patna, was found hanging at her in-laws’ house in Sherpur village under the jurisdiction of Vidyapati Nagar police station. Her family alleges that her death was a murder and has accused her husband, Deputy Jailor Nandu Chaudhary, of orchestrating it.

Nandu Chaudhary is currently posted as Deputy Jailor (Assistant Jail Superintendent) in Darbhanga. According to reports, Shweta’s body was discovered hanging at the Samastipur residence on Wednesday. Police quickly took the body into custody for postmortem examination. Shweta’s brother claims that his sister was allegedly killed by her husband, mother-in-law, and father-in-law, who then tried to stage it as a suicide.

Allegations of Dowry Demands and Abuse
According to Shweta’s brother, the couple married on May 31, 2023. At the time of marriage, the family had given a four-wheeler and other gifts as dowry. However, the in-laws reportedly continued to demand a Fortuner car and ₹10 lakh in cash. Around 19–20 days before her death, Shweta was allegedly subjected to physical abuse by her husband and in-laws. When her family attempted to file a complaint at the police station, the in-laws reportedly asked them to settle the matter amicably and prevented them from taking legal action.

Questions Surrounding the Suspicious Death
Shweta’s brother revealed that he first learned of her death from villagers, raising several unanswered questions. The most significant suspicion falls on her husband, Nandu Chaudhary, who has been at the center of the investigation since the incident. Police are actively searching for him and his family.

Among the key unanswered questions:

  • Nandu Chaudhary had his own quarters but chose to live alone rather than stay with his wife. Why?
  • He had taken an 11-day leave citing his child’s illness. Where was he when the news of his wife’s death broke?

The circumstances surrounding Shweta’s death continue to raise serious concerns, as authorities intensify the search for the accused.
