Bhopal’s ‘Psycho Cutter Man’ Arrested: Revenge for Love Betrayal Turns Him Against Women

Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh: The man terrorizing women in Pipilani and Ayodhya Nagar, Bhopal, has finally been apprehended. Devendra Ahirwar, 37, dubbed the “Psycho Cutter Man,” allegedly attacked women after a series of personal setbacks, including a failed love affair and separation from his wife. Police caught him while he was planning a fifth attack.

A Life of Betrayal and Hatred
Devendra, a resident of Sagar, reportedly struggled to cope with life’s disappointments. After marrying in an attempt to move on, his wife left him shortly thereafter. Feeling betrayed and embittered, Devendra developed a deep-seated hatred for women. Fuelled by this anger, he began targeting women in public spaces with a thermo-cutter, spreading fear throughout the community and forcing many women to stay off the streets.

Details of the Crimes
On the night of 29 January, Devendra attacked four women—three in Pipilani and one in Ayodhya Nagar. Police seized the cutter he used and a stolen motorcycle, which he used to scout and escape from crime scenes. He admitted that he acted while under the influence of alcohol and that he had planned to carry out a fifth attack when the police apprehended him.

Criminal History and Modus Operandi
Police reports indicate that Devendra has a history of similar offenses, including four attacks in Sagar district in 2014. He is an uneducated daily-wage laborer, living in Karond, Bhopal. Familiar with the areas he targeted, he would roam at night on a stolen motorcycle and attack lone women, relying on his local knowledge to evade capture. The stolen motorcycle’s distinct features ultimately helped the police track him down.

Evidence Recovered
Authorities recovered the thermo-cutter and the stolen motorcycle used in the crimes. Devendra had reportedly stolen the motorcycle four months ago from Karond vegetable market. Police are also examining his mobile phone, which contained objectionable videos, and investigating whether he is linked to other cases in Sagar district.

Police Recognition for Arrest
On Devendra’s arrest, Police Director General Kailash Makwana announced a reward of ₹50,000 for the Bhopal police team involved. Given the severity of the incidents, special teams were formed under the guidance of Commissioner Sanjay Kumar and Additional Police Commissioner Avadhesh Goswami. Acting on intelligence, the police cornered and arrested Devendra Ahirwar near the forest area by Ayodhya Bypass and Chholamandir, Bhopal.
