
Bhopal: In a major crackdown to strengthen law and order, the Bhopal Police carried out a massive late-night raid at the notorious ‘Irani Dera’ settlement near Aman Colony under the Nishatpura police station limits. The operation, conducted on the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday, led to the arrest of 39 accused persons, including UP Police’s most wanted criminal Shahadat, who was carrying a reward of over Rs 1 lakh.
The raid was executed in a highly planned and confidential manner, with the police reportedly pulling out criminals who had been hiding inside the area for long.
Criminals From Multiple States Were Hiding in the Area
Bhopal Police Commissioner Sanjay Kumar stated that the Irani Dera had become a safe hideout for wanted criminals from various districts and states. Acting on intelligence inputs, a special team was constituted under DCP Zone-4 Mayur Khandelwal, following which the operation was carried out with strict secrecy.
Massive Police Force Deployed
A total of 400 police personnel were deployed in the operation, including 9 Assistant Police Commissioners and 16 Inspectors. The area was cordoned off before the raid began, ensuring that no suspect could escape.
During the operation, some local residents and women attempted to oppose the police action, but the force maintained strict control and detained a few individuals for obstruction.
Stolen Vehicles, Gold, Cash and Ganja Recovered
Police confirmed the recovery of large quantities of stolen and illegal items from the arrested individuals. The seized material includes:
- 17 stolen two-wheelers
- 644 grams of gold
- 240 grams of silver
- 39 mobile phones
- Rs 1.34 lakh in cash
- 1.7 kg of ganja
Officials said many of the arrested suspects were wanted not only in Bhopal but also in other states.
Hundreds of Warrants Executed Across Bhopal
The police raid was part of a broader citywide campaign aimed at arresting absconders and executing long-pending warrants.
During the drive, police executed:
- 238 permanent warrants
- 125 arrest warrants
- 121 bailable warrants
In addition, 21 more suspects were arrested from other locations, including absconders, vehicle thieves, and criminals from outside the district. Police also detained eight individuals in connection with serious pending criminal cases.
Police Say Crackdown Will Continue
Senior officials stated that the operation is a strong message to criminal elements that Bhopal will not tolerate illegal hideouts and organized crime networks. Further investigation is underway, and police have hinted that more arrests may follow.
