Bhopal on Alert as Contaminated Water Concerns Rise; 24 Leakages Fixed on Holiday Sweep

Bhopal: In the wake of the tragic deaths caused by contaminated water in Indore, Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) swung into action, even on a Sunday holiday. Teams of civic workers hit the streets and lanes of the city to conduct a thorough inspection of the water supply system. During the operation, 24 leakages were identified and repaired immediately.

Proactive Measures Amid Rising Concerns
Following complaints of contaminated water in various parts of the city, BMC staff conducted intensive field operations to prevent any similar crisis in the state capital. The teams collected water samples from 210 different locations, including slum areas, which were sent to eight separate laboratories for testing. Fortunately, initial reports indicate that the water quality is within safe limits. On Saturday, the administration had already collected samples from 258 locations to ensure drinking water safety.

Ground-Level Operations Intensified
Beyond testing, on-ground repair and maintenance work proceeded at full pace. Civic teams cleaned sewage chambers at 45 locations and repaired 24 identified pipeline leakages. Additionally, 52 water-related complaints received via the Chief Minister’s and Mayor’s helplines were addressed on the spot. The Water Works Department is also paying special attention to the cleaning of large and sump tanks to ensure safe drinking water reaches every household.

Learning from Indore’s tragic incident, Bhopal Municipal Corporation remains on high alert to prevent any water-borne disease outbreaks in the city.
