
Bhopal is all set to welcome a new era of modern public transport as its metro service begins operations for passengers from December 21, 2025. The launch marks a major milestone for the city, promising convenience, safety, and advanced amenities.
The metro coaches are equipped with USB charging points, allowing passengers to charge their mobile devices and laptops during travel. The system aims to combine efficiency with comfort for daily commuters.
Strict Rules and Fine List
Passengers are advised to adhere to the following rules to ensure smooth operations:
- Spitting inside trains: ₹200 fine
- Blocking metro doors: ₹5,000 fine
- Carrying alcohol: Strictly prohibited
- Misuse of emergency assistance points: ₹1,000 fine or imprisonment up to one year
The metro will operate from Subhash Nagar depot, with trains initially running at 30-minute intervals. The depot currently houses eight train sets (24 coaches).
Robust Power Supply
Bhopal Metro will receive direct power from the 132kV grid, with two separate connections to ensure uninterrupted service. Staff have completed training under Delhi Metro guidance, ensuring safe and efficient operations.
First Operational Corridor
The inaugural corridor will cover approximately 6.3 kilometers between AIIMS Bhopal and Subhash Nagar depot. The metro was envisioned as a rapid transit solution to reduce traffic congestion in the state capital.
Initially, two lines were planned:
- Orange Line: Karond to AIIMS Bhopal
- Blue Line: Bhadbhada to Ratnagiri
The project, originally estimated at ₹6,941 crore, has seen delays and design modifications, increasing the overall cost by around 50%.
The launch of Bhopal Metro is expected to transform daily commuting, providing residents with a modern, safe, and reliable public transport system.
