Bhopal Metro Launch: Travel from AIIMS to Subhash Nagar in Just 25 Minutes at ₹20 Fare

Bhopal: The long-awaited Bhopal Metro is finally ready to become a reality. The metro service was inaugurated by Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav at Minto Hall, Bhopal, on 20th December 2025. From 21st December, the public will be able to experience this convenient mode of transport. The metro will operate daily from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM along the priority corridor.

Ticket Fare and Stations
According to S. Krishna Chaitanya, Managing Director of Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited, the priority corridor consists of eight stations. The fare structure is as follows:

  • One station: ₹20
  • Three to five stations: ₹30
  • Full stretch from AIIMS to Subhash Nagar (7.4 km): ₹40

Speed and Train Operations
The metro will run at a maximum speed of 40 km/h. Currently, tickets must be purchased manually as online ticketing is not yet available. Free travel will not be offered during the first week of operations. Upon completion of the full Orange Line, the maximum fare is expected to reach ₹70.

Operational details include:

  • AIIMS Metro Station to Subhash Nagar: 9 trains daily
  • Subhash Nagar to AIIMS: 8 trains daily
  • Each three-coach train can carry 200–250 passengers
  • Total daily trips: 17
  • Metro trains will run 75-minute intervals between AIIMS and Subhash Nagar

Future Plans and Parking
The Bhopal Metro is planned to eventually operate driverless, though for now, trains will be manned by drivers. The priority corridor of 7.4 km on the Orange Line was initially scheduled for completion in July 2025 but was completed with a six-month delay.

Although the detailed project report did not include parking facilities, 15–20 four-wheeler and 30–35 two-wheeler parking slots have been identified near metro stations and will soon be operational.

Travel Time
The metro will take just 25 minutes to cover the distance from AIIMS to Subhash Nagar. Each station platform can accommodate up to 500 standing passengers.

Metro Timings:

  • AIIMS to Subhash Nagar: First train 9:00 AM, last train 7:00 PM (arrival 7:25 PM)
  • Subhash Nagar to AIIMS: First train 9:40 AM, last train 6:25 PM (arrival 6:50 PM)

Station Entry and Exit Gates:

  • AIIMS Metro Station: Gates 1 & 3
  • Rani Kamalapati Metro Station: Entry Gate 2, Exit Gates 1 & 3
  • Subhash Nagar Metro Station: Gates 3 (opposite underpass) & 4 (opposite metro depot)

With the launch of Bhopal Metro, residents can now enjoy a fast, affordable, and reliable commuting option across the city.
