Bhopal, MP: In a shocking revelation, a major job fraud racket has come to light in Bhopal, where a man allegedly swindled nearly Rs 20 lakh from unsuspecting people by promising them government jobs. The accused, Vijay Shankar Mishra, reportedly claimed that his sister-in-law was an IAS officer posted in a state ministry and that he could secure government positions for applicants.
How the Scam Unfolded
The case came to light when several victims realized that the joining letters handed to them were fake. The accused targeted residents of Ambah, Morena, including a farmer named Rajkumar Singh, who approached him on February 6, 2024, outside a government ministry. Over multiple meetings, Vijay Shankar Mishra assured Singh that he could get jobs for his family members in the Women and Child Development Department and the Election Commission.
Following this, Singh provided documents for seven family members, and the accused collected about Rs 20 lakh in installments. Eventually, when the victims pressed for quick placement, Mishra distributed fake joining letters for all seven individuals in the promised government departments. Later, it was discovered that all the documents were fabricated.
Police Action
The Crime Branch of Madhya Pradesh Police registered an FIR after the complaint reached the Police Headquarters and arrested Vijay Shankar Mishra. The police are now investigating whether the accused had accomplices and how the fake letters were produced. Authorities also noted that similar scams have occurred before, targeting people with promises of government employment.
Victim Statement
The victims have expressed shock and anger over the fraudulent scheme. “We trusted him because he claimed close family connections with a senior IAS officer. It is shocking to see how easily such fake assurances were used to cheat us,” said one of the complainants.
