Bhopal: A chilling case of honeytrap and blackmail has come to light in the state capital. Sultan Khan, a 30-year-old driver employed with the Bhopal Municipal Corporation, took his own life after being subjected to sustained harassment. Sultan consumed poison on Tuesday and passed away during treatment on Wednesday night.
Entrapped Through a Fake Love Affair
According to Sultan’s brother, Salman Khan, a young woman first lured Sultan into a romantic trap and then began blackmailing him by threatening to leak his personal videos. Reports suggest that Sultan had already paid around ₹8 lakh to the woman, who continued to pressure him for more money. A fake police inspector (TI) was reportedly involved in the scheme, intimidating Sultan with threats of a fabricated rape case and imprisonment.
Mobile Evidence Reveals Harassment
During the investigation, police recovered strong evidence of blackmail from Sultan’s mobile phone. Chat messages and call records revealed repeated abuse and life threats from the accused. Sultan’s phone contained 161 missed calls from the woman, saved under misleading names like “My Wife” and “Uncle TI” to avoid suspicion.
Confession to Family Before Death
Before his death, Sultan reportedly confided in his brother, describing the relentless harassment and the payments he had already made. Despite complying with their demands, the accused allegedly continued their extortion.
Police have registered a case and launched a search for the woman and her accomplices, using the mobile evidence as the primary lead.
