Bhopal: Celebrate New Year at Home with Legal ‘One-Day Bar’ License for Just ₹500

BHOPAL: This New Year, residents of Bhopal can celebrate without worrying about legal restrictions on alcohol at private gatherings. The Excise Department of Madhya Pradesh has introduced a special one-day license allowing citizens to convert their homes into a legal “bar” for just ₹500.

One-Day License for Private Parties
According to the new guidelines issued by Assistant Excise Commissioner Virendra Singh Dhakad, individuals can now host parties on rooftops, drawing rooms, or private spaces without fear of raids by police or excise authorities. The initiative also provides a clear framework for larger events at gardens, restaurants, or hotels, where gatherings range from 500 to 5,000 people. In such cases, license fees vary from ₹25,000 to ₹2 lakh depending on crowd size.

Simple and Modern Application Process
The department has made the licensing process completely digital. Applicants can visit the ‘Eaabkari’ portal or app, log in via OTP, and receive the one-day license within minutes—eliminating the need for physical visits to government offices.

License Fee Structure

  • Private home gatherings: ₹500
  • Public events at marriage gardens or community halls: ₹5,000
  • Hotels with lodging facilities: ₹10,000

For commercial-scale events with entry tickets:

  • Up to 500 attendees: ₹25,000
  • More than 5,000 attendees: up to ₹2 lakh

Rules for Alcohol Consumption
The license specifies that alcohol consumption is strictly limited to the venue for which permission is granted. Transport of liquor is also regulated, although applicants can pre-declare stock requirements through the online application system.

This initiative will benefit over 350 hotels, dhabas, and thousands of citizens in Bhopal, making New Year celebrations safer, hassle-free, and more enjoyable than ever.
