Bhopal Case Initially Treated as Suicide Turns Out to Be Rape; Forensic Report After 4 Months Reveals Sperm Evidence

Bhopal: In a shocking revelation, a case that police had initially classified as suicide has now been confirmed as rape, following a forensic report that surfaced more than four months after the incident. The case pertains to the death of a Class 10 student found hanging in her home in August 2025 in the Kolar police station area of Bhopal.

The Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) report, received after 132 days, confirmed the presence of human sperm in the victim’s private parts, indicating that the minor girl was sexually assaulted before her death. This revelation has raised serious questions about the initial investigation and police handling of the case.

When the 17-year-old girl’s body was discovered on 17 August 2025, no suicide note was found. Police treated the case as a “routine suicide” and did not pursue deeper criminal angles, though precautionary forensic slides were sent for examination. The delayed lab report has now conclusively established that the death was not a simple suicide but the outcome of a heinous sexual crime.

Following the forensic findings, police have registered a fresh case against an unknown accused under rape and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Sub-Inspector Jitendra Kevat said the investigation has been reopened from scratch.

Police are now examining call detail records (CDRs) to identify who the victim contacted before her death and are scanning nearby CCTV footage to trace movements around her residence on the day of the incident. Investigators are also probing who visited the house that day and whether the crime involved a single perpetrator or multiple offenders.

The case has sent shockwaves across the city, highlighting lapses in early investigation and reinforcing the need for thorough scrutiny in cases involving minors and suspicious deaths. Authorities have assured that all possible angles will be explored to ensure justice for the victim.
