Bhopal: Raja Bhoj Airport has emerged as a major international hub in 2025, even without regular foreign flights. The airport recorded 30 international charter movements last year, serving 633 passengers, highlighting its growing popularity among business travelers, medical tourists, and high-net-worth individuals.
Why Bhopal Became a Global Hotspot
Since 2023, Raja Bhoj International Airport has introduced specialized immigration services, making it a key center for non-scheduled flights. Charter and private flights have transformed the airport into a global connectivity hotspot for central India, with most flights arriving from Dubai, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam. Dubai topped the list, followed by Singapore.
Airport Director Celebrates Milestone
Airport Director Ramji Awasthi expressed pride in the achievement, saying, “Efficient immigration clearance has been a game-changer. In 2025, we facilitated smooth immigration for over 600 passengers, boosting non-scheduled operations.” He also highlighted that customs officials handled high-value cargo, including electronics and perishable items, with efficiency.
Bhopal Airport boasts an upgraded runway, modern terminal, and 24/7 air traffic control, capable of handling large aircraft. UAE-based airlines and private operators have praised the airport’s operational efficiency and quick turnaround times.
Benefits for the Local Economy
Local stakeholders are witnessing positive economic impacts. An official from the Bhopal Chamber of Commerce noted, “These flights are bringing in revenue related to tourism.” Hotels near the airport reported a 20% increase in occupancy during peak charter seasons.
Customer Satisfaction Rankings
Bhopal Airport topped the Airports Authority of India (AAI) Customer Satisfaction Survey 2025, earning recognition as the national leader in passenger service excellence. Previously ranked 20th nationally, the airport moved to 3rd and 2nd place in CSS 2022, and achieved 1st place in both rounds of 2023 and 2025, maintaining its top position in its category of 1.5–3.5 million passengers.
Looking Ahead: International Flights
Officials anticipate that regular flights to Dubai and Singapore will begin in 2026. The 30-flight movement record has set a benchmark, and the airport aims to double this figure in the coming years, further solidifying Bhopal’s status as a global aviation hub.
