Bhilwara: A daring robbery has once again raised serious concerns over the safety of traders in Rajasthan’s Bhilwara city. On Monday night, five bike-borne criminals looted ₹4 lakh from a local businessman within seconds while he was returning home from his shop. Shockingly, this is the second such incident involving the same family in less than four and a half months.
According to police, the victim, Narayan Das Manganani, owner of Sai Baba General Store, was heading home on his Activa scooter with the day’s cash kept in the vehicle’s boot. As he reached near his residence, five miscreants riding two motorcycles surrounded him, pushed him to the road, and fled with the scooter containing ₹4 lakh in cash. The entire incident reportedly took less than 40 seconds.
Narayan Das later told the police that he had left home earlier in the day with ₹3 lakh to deposit the money in a bank, but due to lack of time, the amount could not be deposited. After adding the shop’s cash collection, he was carrying a total of ₹4 lakh while returning home at night. He noticed two motorcycles following him and even tried to speed up, but the robbers managed to corner him and execute the loot.
On receiving information, Kotwali Police Station in-charge Shivraj Gurjar, IPS probationer Ayush Sotreya, and Deputy Superintendent of Police Bhawani Singh rushed to the spot and initiated an investigation. Police teams are examining CCTV footage from nearby areas and questioning locals to trace the accused.
Family Targeted Earlier as Well
This is not the first time the Manganani family has been targeted. About four and a half months ago, on September 2, 2025, Narayan Das’s brother Dharmadas Manganani and his nephew Sunil Manganani were robbed of ₹10 lakh while returning home from their shop. In that incident, five armed criminals in a car allegedly threatened them with a pistol and fled with the cash.
Police suspect that the same gang may be behind both robberies, as the modus operandi appears strikingly similar. In the earlier case, a former employee of the family was found to be involved and was arrested, with the stolen money recovered.
The back-to-back incidents have triggered fear among traders in Bhilwara, who are now demanding stronger police patrolling and enhanced security measures, especially during night hours. The police have assured that the culprits will be arrested soon and that strict action will be taken to curb such crimes in the city.
