Bengaluru Tragedy: 17-Year-Old Drives SUV at 160 km/h, Collides with Truck; 7 Dead

Bengaluru: A high-speed joyride turned deadly early Friday morning on Bengaluru’s STRR Ring Road near Kambalipura Gate, claiming seven lives. An SUV, driven by a 17-year-old boy, collided with a truck after hitting a motorbike, killing six students inside the vehicle and the biker on the road.

Details of the Accident

According to police, the SUV was carrying six students, all under 18 and enrolled in grades 10–11. The vehicle, an XUV 700, was being driven by 17-year-old Ayaan Ali, with friends Ashwin Nair, Ethan George, Ahram Sharif, Bharat, and Mohammed Farhan Sheikh on board.

The accident occurred between 4:15 AM and 4:30 AM. The SUV first struck a biker named Gagan, a company supervisor, before rear-ending a moving truck. The collision caused the SUV to shatter into pieces, with the truck losing its axle and wheels. The truck driver, Balasubramani, was injured when the vehicle overturned but survived after being admitted to hospital. A nearby car also collided with debris, leaving two occupants injured.

Cause: Excessive Speed

Police confirmed that the speed limit on this section of the Dobbaspet–Hoskote Satellite Town Ring Road is 100 km/h. The SUV, however, was speeding at 160 km/h. SP Chandra Kant MV of Bengaluru Rural described the aftermath as catastrophic, with the SUV essentially destroyed upon impact. The truck, hit at high velocity, overturned within seconds, leaving the driver dazed and injured.

Authorities are investigating the tragic incident, emphasizing the dangers of reckless driving, especially among minors.
