Begusarai, Bihar: A land dispute in Baruni Phulwariya police station area of Begusarai district escalated into a violent clash on Tuesday, with multiple rounds of gunfire creating panic in the locality. Police said the accused fled the scene before their arrival. Three empty cartridges were recovered from the spot.
Complaint Filed at Baruni Phulwariya Police Station
Local resident Mohammad Saba Karim lodged a complaint alleging that an attempt was made to forcefully occupy his 37 katha plot. He named 10 individuals and accused over two dozen others of involvement.
According to Karim, Harivansh Narayan Singh, along with armed supporters, entered his field and began plowing the land using a tractor. When Karim protested, he claims, the group opened fire in an attempt to intimidate him.
Police Response
Speaking to reporters, SHO Vijay Sahni of Baruni Phulwariya Police Station said the clash was related to an ongoing land dispute between the two parties. “We received information about the confrontation on Monday,” he said. “However, by the time police reached the site on Tuesday, the miscreants had fled.” Three empty cartridges were recovered from the scene.
The SHO added that while Karim filed a complaint against 10 named and over two dozen unnamed individuals, no counter-complaint had been registered by the other side as of Tuesday afternoon. Police have initiated an investigation into the incident.
Roots of the Dispute
The dispute revolves around a 37 katha plot of farmland. Supporters of Karim claim that his father-in-law was a landowner in the area, granting Karim legal rights to cultivate the land. On the other hand, Harivansh’s supporters allege that they had purchased the plot from Karim’s father-in-law, but were later blocked by Karim’s relatives from taking possession.
The situation highlights rising tensions over land ownership in Begusarai and the urgent need for legal resolution to prevent further violence.
