New Delhi: Fear and panic have gripped several parts of East Delhi after a brutal daylight murder allegedly carried out by juveniles. The latest incident, in which three minors stabbed a delivery executive to death in a crowded market, has once again highlighted the growing menace of juvenile crime in the national capital.
Following the killing of 22-year-old Arun Raj at Acharya Niketan Market in Mayur Vihar, residents and shopkeepers are living under constant fear. Police officials have stated that this is not an isolated case. In fact, East Delhi has witnessed a disturbing rise in violent crimes committed by minors, including murders, attempted murders, and even rape cases.
Three Minors Arrested, Weapon Recovered
According to East District DCP Abhishek Dhaniya, the victim had an old rivalry with the accused. Preliminary investigation suggests that Arun had allegedly harassed the sister of one of the minors, which further escalated the conflict.
“All three accused are minors. They have been apprehended and the weapon used in the crime has also been recovered,” the DCP confirmed.
Juvenile Crime Hotspots Identified in East Delhi
Police sources have identified several areas in East Delhi that have become major hotspots for juvenile offenders. These locations are frequently linked to violent street crimes, including assaults, stabbings, robberies, and gang clashes.
The areas flagged include:
- Rajveer Colony (Ghaziipur police station area)
- West Vinod Nagar (Madhu Vihar region)
- Ganesh Nagar (Pandav Nagar police station area)
- Dallupura Village (New Ashok Nagar area)
- Shakarpur School Block (Laxmi Nagar zone)
- Vikas Marg–Geeta Colony Main Road (Shakarpur stretch)
Arun Raj Stabbed More Than 10 Times
Investigators revealed that the three juveniles involved in Arun Raj’s murder were known to him. The dispute reportedly began after Arun posted a video of one of the minors on social media, leading to tension between them.
On Monday evening around 8 PM, the three minors allegedly attacked Arun and stabbed him more than ten times, leaving him bleeding on the street.
Arun, a resident of Trilokpuri, worked as a delivery executive at a dosa shop. Despite being rushed for medical help, he could not survive the attack.
Minors Committing Crimes Almost Every Alternate Day
The increasing involvement of juveniles in serious crimes has become a major concern for Delhi Police. Data suggests that in 2025 alone, juveniles were involved in 182 cases in East Delhi, which means minors were committing crimes almost every second day.
Earlier, on the night of January 4, another murder was reported from Trilokpuri’s 28-Block, where a 17-year-old boy named Mohit was killed over a dispute triggered by comments on Instagram. In that case, police detained six minors.
The pattern indicates that social media disputes, personal rivalries, and street gang culture are rapidly fueling violence among teenagers.
Police Running Awareness Drives to Pull Minors Away From Crime
In an effort to prevent young individuals from slipping into criminal networks, Delhi Police has launched several community programs and awareness initiatives. These include:
- Boys Club
- Anti-drug awareness campaign “Disha”
- “Nirbhik” for boys under 18
- “Nazuk” for children under 5 years
Police claimed that during the last year, 181 awareness programs were conducted, involving over 13,145 juveniles. Additionally, with the support of NGOs and social organizations, around 125 minors were rehabilitated and connected to jobs in 2025.
Rising Concern for Public Safety
The growing number of violent incidents involving minors has raised serious questions about public safety in Delhi. Residents are now demanding stronger policing, stricter monitoring of repeat offenders, and community-level intervention to stop teenagers from entering the world of crime.
As juvenile crime continues to rise, people are being advised to remain cautious, especially in the areas identified as high-risk zones.
