Barsana, Uttar Pradesh: Devotees visiting Barsana to seek the blessings of Radha Rani have a reason to rejoice. The Barsana ropeway, which had been closed for maintenance over the past week, has now resumed operations. This time, the ropeway has been upgraded with high-tech features to ensure a smoother and more convenient experience for pilgrims.
The ropeway had been shut since 1 February for technical inspections and repairs. A team of experts carried out thorough maintenance of the wiring, trolleys, and other equipment, along with some system upgrades.
Non-stop Ride to the Temple
One of the major improvements is that devotees will no longer have to stop midway. The ropeway trolleys will now travel directly from the base to near the temple without halting, saving time and reducing crowding. Earlier, frequent stops meant that many devotees could not complete their darshan on time, and queues often created congestion. With the new system, more pilgrims can now enjoy uninterrupted darshan in less time.
Project Cost and Background
The Barsana ropeway project began in 2016 but faced delays due to environmental clearances and the COVID-19 pandemic, taking eight years to complete. The project cost approximately ₹15.89 crore and was developed following the model of the Mathura-Vrindavan Development Authority.
Inauguration by CM Yogi
The ropeway was inaugurated by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on 25 August 2024, during Shri Krishna Janmashtami celebrations. The ropeway stretches over 210 meters and ascends 600 feet from the ground to the temple. It features 12 pendola trolleys, each with a seating capacity of six people. The round-trip fare has been set at ₹100 per person.
With these upgrades, devotees can now enjoy a seamless and faster journey to seek the blessings of Ladli Ji in Barsana.
