Barmer Couple’s Eternal Love: Husband and Wife Pass Away Hours Apart

Barmer, Rajasthan: In the village of Sudaberi in Barmer district, an extraordinary story of lifelong love and devotion has touched the hearts of the community. Rajadevi (90) and her husband Ruparam (95), who had shared seven decades together, passed away just hours apart, leaving the village in grief and awe at their enduring bond.

Almost 70–80 years ago, the couple had pledged in the sacred seven rounds of marriage (Saptapadi) to stay together in life and death. That promise, kept true to the very end, moved everyone who learned of their passing. Rajadevi passed away on Sunday, and the shock of her departure proved too much for Ruparam. Shortly after, he too passed away, completing a life-long journey that had begun together and ended in unison.

Villagers described their relationship as a rare example of love, simplicity, and mutual understanding. Throughout their life, Rajadevi and Ruparam supported each other through happiness, sorrow, struggles, and responsibilities. In their final moments, it seemed as if their breaths were waiting for one another. The news of their passing on the same day sent waves of sorrow through Sudaberi. Their funeral was held together, with both pyres lit side by side, leaving everyone in the village tearful and reflective of the couple’s undying love.

This touching incident recalls a similar story from Mahabar village in Barmer last November, when 89-year-old Hero Devi passed away and her 90-year-old husband Jugtaram died just four hours later. Once again, the Sudaberi couple’s story reinforces the idea that true love transcends even death. From the vows of the seven rounds to their final journey, Rajadevi and Ruparam remained hand in hand—a rare testament to eternal love.
