Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh: A shocking case of husband’s murder has emerged from Bareilly, where a young man who had recently married was found dead in a rented room. Initial reports suggested suicide, but a postmortem revealed strangulation, confirming foul play. Police have taken the wife and her family members into custody for questioning.
Incident Details
The deceased, 33-year-old Jitendra Yadav, was working as a contractual office assistant at IVRI. He lived with his wife, Jyoti, in a rented room at Kailashpuram Colony, Bagpat MLA Kamal Saxena’s residence. Jitendra hailed from Bharathana in Etawah. The couple had been in a relationship for nine years and tied the knot on 25 November 2025. Jyoti works as a conductor with UP Roadways.
On Monday morning, Jitendra’s body was discovered hanging in the rented room, initially suggesting a suicide. His brother, Ajay Yadav, filed a complaint against Jyoti, her father Kalicharan, mother Chameli, and brother-in-law Deepak, alleging that they had pressured Jitendra into transferring property and a car in Jyoti’s name and threatened him with dowry harassment cases.
Postmortem Reveals Murder
However, a postmortem confirmed that Jitendra had been strangled, overturning initial assumptions of suicide. Police have now begun a murder investigation and are interrogating Jyoti and her family. Inspector Bijendra Singh and his team revisited the scene, conducted a detailed examination of the room, and questioned neighbors and others present in the area.
Additional Details
The couple had shifted to the rented house in Kailashpuram only 25 days ago. Jitendra’s body was found hanging from a ventilator using a muffler, with his legs resting on a stool and tongue protruding, which initially led police to consider suicide. Forensic experts collected evidence at the scene. Mobile phone records of Jitendra and Jyoti have been seized, showing that Jyoti had last contacted her family at her parental home. CCTV footage from surrounding streets is also being examined as part of the investigation.
Police are now pursuing multiple angles in the case, considering the involvement of the wife and her family in the strangulation and staged hanging, as the primary theory.
