Bangladeshi Bride Intercepted After Entering India via Nepal; ATS Begins Probe

Amroha: Security agencies were put on alert in Amroha’s Mandi Dhanaura area after a Bangladeshi woman, who had married an Indian-origin man in Saudi Arabia, entered India illegally via Nepal. Acting on a tip-off from local residents, police detained the couple on Thursday evening and questioned them for several hours. A case was registered late night for lack of required travel documents.

On Friday, an Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) team reached Mandi Dhanaura and initiated an in-depth investigation.

During interrogation, it emerged that the woman, Reena Begum, returned to Bangladesh three months ago following her father’s death. Her husband Rashid, who works in Saudi Arabia, visited her twice in Bangladesh. On his third visit, the couple obtained a 30-day tourist visa for Nepal and later entered India through the Mahendranagar–Banbasa route, bypassing the mandatory Indian visa requirements.

Police officials said the couple travelled straight to Mandi Dhanaura, where Rashid’s relatives live.

ATS officers are examining the couple’s mobile phones, call records and travel documents. Initial questioning has not revealed any suspicious activity, and call logs show that Reena contacted only her family members in Bangladesh after entering India. However, agencies are taking the matter seriously, as entering India without a valid visa is a clear violation of immigration laws.

SP Amit Kumar Anand stated that the interrogation is complete and the duo will be produced before court on Friday. Police maintain that discrepancies in travel documents and illegal entry into India warrant legal action.

Meanwhile, the arrival of the foreign couple has generated curiosity among local residents.
