Banda, UP: In a shocking incident in Banda, a UP 112 police constable attacked his wife and three-year-old daughter with an axe following a domestic dispute. The toddler succumbed to her injuries during treatment, while the mother remains in critical condition.
The accused constable, identified as Gaurav Kumar, hails from Kuniyabut village in Farrukhabad district. He was serving as a driver with the UP 112 emergency service and was living in a rented house in the town with his 32-year-old wife, Shivani, and daughter, Pari. On Wednesday, during the Makar Sankranti festival, he took his wife and daughter to a local fair. Returning home around 9 PM, a domestic argument escalated into violence.
In a fit of rage, Kumar reportedly attacked both his wife and daughter with an axe. Neighbours and the landlord rushed to the scene after hearing screams and immediately informed the police. The injured were first taken to CHC Baberu and later referred to Rani Durgavati Medical College, where the child died during treatment. Shivani is currently in critical condition and has been transferred to Kanpur for further medical care.
According to locals, the couple frequently argued over domestic matters. Following the attack, Kumar locked the room from outside and fled. His mobile phone was later found near the Yamuna River, raising fears that he may have attempted suicide by jumping into the river.
Baberu Sub-Divisional Officer Saurabh Singh confirmed the attack and stated that the investigation is underway. Further action will be taken after the inquiry.
