Balrampur, Uttar Pradesh:
A serious case of attempting to disturb social harmony has surfaced in Balrampur district, where a controversial video involving the village head went viral on social media. The video, reportedly recorded in Pune, showed the Siswa village head, Mohammad Amir, making derogatory remarks against the Hindu community and issuing provocative statements regarding Durga Puja and Ram Mandir processions. Following the public outcry, police took swift action and arrested Amir. NBT Online has not independently verified the viral footage.
According to Additional Superintendent of Police Vishal Pandey, the video quickly circulated online, prompting complaints from several individuals. The video depicted Amir along with his associates expressing threatening intentions toward Hindu families in his village. The remarks sparked widespread anger among local communities, who described the video as an attempt to disrupt communal peace in the area.
The incident came to light when the Nagar Kotwali police registered a case based on complaints from residents, including a written report by Ramesh Mishra of Purab Tola, Kotwali Nagar. The case named Mohammad Amir and another person as accused. Following this, Panchpedwa police acted promptly and arrested Amir, who is currently being interrogated. Authorities confirmed that one more suspect is still at large.
The video is believed to have been recorded while Amir was in Pune, sitting in an office with companions and allegedly expressing harmful intentions toward Hindu families in Siswa village. As the footage went viral, it ignited protests by Hindu organizations, with local leaders and residents demanding immediate and strict action.
A large demonstration took place at the Panchpedwa police station under the leadership of Prince Verma, head of the Gasdi Nagar Panchayat, and former Hindu Yuva Vahini leader Naveen Vikram Singh. Protesters emphasized that the video could harm communal harmony in the village and district and demanded stringent legal action against the accused.
Panchpedwa Kotwali Officer-in-Charge OP Chauhan stated that a detailed investigation is underway and assured that strict action would be taken against the accused once the inquiry is complete. The authorities are examining all aspects of the case to ensure that communal peace is maintained.
