Ballia, UP: A romantic tale that began on Instagram recently took an unexpected legal turn in Ballia, Uttar Pradesh. A young man from Siwan, Bihar, traveled to meet his girlfriend, only to discover that her age posed a legal hurdle to their marriage.
The incident occurred on Monday night in a village under Bansdih Road police jurisdiction. The boy entered the girl’s home secretly, but was caught by her family. He admitted that he had met the girl through social media and had come from Siwan to meet her. After notifying both families, a Panchayat was convened on Tuesday to resolve the matter.
During discussions, it emerged that the girl would reach legal adulthood in just two days. Conducting the marriage before that would have been illegal. Both families agreed that the court marriage would take place immediately after she turned 18, scheduled for 1 January. This decision was accepted by both parties and brought the situation under control.
Bansdih Road police station in-charge, Vansh Bahadur Singh, confirmed, “Both families reached a mutual agreement regarding the marriage. The couple will legally tie the knot once the girl attains adulthood.”
This case highlights the intersection of modern romance via social media and adherence to legal requirements in matters of marriage.
