Bahraich, UP: The Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) of Bahraich, Ram Singh Yadav, has been transferred and attached to Lucknow following his inability to control the escalating wolf attacks in the district. Since September, the Kaiserganj area of Bahraich has been grappling with a spate of wolf attacks, which have claimed 12 human lives this year. While authorities have killed eight wolves, the attacks continue unabated.
New Appointment
Following the decision, DFO Sundaresha, previously posted in the ATMA department, has been assigned to take charge of the Bahraich forest division.
Official Concerns and Criticism
Sources in the Forest Department, speaking on condition of anonymity, revealed that Ram Singh Yadav is considered a relatively lax officer with limited field experience, having previously served mostly in Kaushambi and spending much of his tenure on administrative desk work. Due to recurring incidents, the Chief Minister, Yogi Adityanath, reportedly expressed displeasure with his performance.
Reason for Discontent
Officials noted that while last year saw 10 deaths, the incidents were largely controlled, and very few wolves were killed. This year, however, 12 human fatalities occurred, and eight wolves were killed — a move viewed as detrimental to biodiversity. The ongoing incidents and mishandling of the situation contributed to the decision to replace DFO Yadav.
