Baghpat’s ‘Constitution Park’: Where Children Learn the Constitution While Playing, Built from Recycled Waste

Baghpat: Understanding the Constitution is no longer confined to books. In a pioneering initiative, a unique “Constitution Park” has been developed at the Baraut Municipal Complex in Baghpat, where children can learn the values of the Constitution through play, young citizens can connect with their duties, and the general public can embrace a healthy and responsible lifestyle. Built entirely from recycled waste, the park exemplifies the “Waste to Wealth” concept and sets a new benchmark for innovative public spaces in India.

A Space Accessible to All Ages
The park is not merely a green or recreational space but functions as an open classroom and street library. Core principles of the Constitution—justice, equality, liberty, and fraternity—are creatively represented through symbols, boards, and structures, making them accessible and engaging for visitors of all ages. For children, the park transforms learning into an enjoyable, experiential activity rather than a routine academic task.

A Grand Symbol of the Constitution
The highlight of the park is a colossal 600-kilogram replica of the Constitution book, measuring 11 feet in height and 14 feet in width. This imposing structure not only impresses with its scale but also carries a powerful message. A replica of the original Preamble of the Constitution has been installed at the Baraut Municipal Complex. The park was inaugurated by State Minister K.P. Malik and District Magistrate Asmita Lal.

Reviving the Spirit of Swadeshi through Gandhi’s Charkha
Constructed entirely from recycled materials, the park is a strong example of environmental conservation and responsible development, demonstrating how waste can be transformed into a medium of innovation and social messaging. A replica of Mahatma Gandhi’s charkha installed in the park reinforces the spirit of Swadeshi and self-reliance. Additionally, a water kiosk themed around Baghpat’s ancient name, ‘Vyaghprastha,’ reflects local culture and history, encouraging visitors to remain connected to their roots even in a rapidly urbanizing environment.

Promoting Physical, Mental, and Intellectual Well-Being
The park also features boards highlighting citizens’ rights and duties, a book point, a library, and health-focused activities. Visitors can engage in physical exercise while simultaneously enhancing their mental and intellectual faculties. This comprehensive approach has made the park popular among children, youth, and senior citizens alike.

A Model Initiative for the Nation
According to District Magistrate Asmita Lal, Baghpat’s Constitution Park not only promotes better health but also educates citizens about their rights and responsibilities. The initiative reflects the vision of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, combining development with values, modernity with the Constitution, and fitness with social responsibility. Today, Constitution Park stands not only as a landmark for Baghpat but as an inspiring model for the entire country.
