Baghpat DM Asmita Lal Plays With Monkey During Farmers’ Protest, Video Goes Viral

Baghpat, Uttar Pradesh: District Magistrate Asmita Lal of Baghpat has captured public attention after a video showing her interacting with a monkey went viral on social media. The incident occurred while she was listening to farmers’ grievances at the Baghpat Collectorate.

Farmers’ Protest

On Thursday, around 1:30 PM, members of the Bharatiya Kisan Union arrived at the collectorate to submit a memorandum to the Chief Minister through the DM. The farmers staged a sit-in to press their demands. Upon learning about the protest, DM Asmita Lal personally visited the site, sat among the farmers, and assured them of prompt action.

Playful Encounter With Monkey

During the meeting, a langur, locally named “Matru”, appeared and blocked the DM’s path as she was leaving. Amused, Asmita Lal sat down and began playing with the monkey, who grabbed her hand. Smiling, she reportedly said, “No, Matru.” The interaction lasted about five minutes, entertaining both the DM and the farmers nearby. At one point, Matru even tugged at her saree, which the farmers helped retrieve.

Known for Animal Welfare

Asmita Lal is recognized for her compassionate approach toward animals. In Baghpat, she has established night shelters for stray animals during winter and installed artificial bird nests at the collectorate. Her sensitivity toward public and animal welfare issues has earned her widespread appreciation.
