
Baghpat: The Cyber Police of Baghpat, Uttar Pradesh, have uncovered a major online job scam racket, arresting seven accused, including two women. The gang allegedly cheated job seekers by promising positions in reputed companies and collected lakhs of rupees from unsuspecting victims.
How the Scam Operated
According to SP Suraj Kumar Rai, the gang operated from Noida. The accused would contact unemployed youth, conduct fake interviews, and send forged offer letters and agreements to create the illusion of employment. Victims were then tricked into paying registration fees, security deposits, and other charges online.
The gang also created fake websites using the names of well-known companies, listing their own mobile numbers as contacts. Job seekers who reached out to these numbers fell prey to the scam.
Massive Data Seized
During the investigation, police recovered data of around 10,000 mobile numbers, including 6,450 numbers from which financial transactions were already conducted. Several numbers were also found to be prepped for future scams.
Arrested Accused
The arrested individuals include:
- Mohit Kumar, son of Pramod Kumar, Badhout, Baghpat
- Puneet Kumar, son of late Jagpal Singh, Badhout, Baghpat
- Vardan, son of Ramavatar, Badhout, Baghpat
- Anuj Kumar, son of Inderpal, New Ashok Nagar, East Delhi (originally from Chaprauli, Baghpat)
- Akshay, son of Pramod Kumar, Sonta Alipur, Khiri, Shamli, Muzaffarnagar
- Two women (names withheld)
Electronic Evidence Recovered
Police seized 12 mobile phones, one laptop, fake documents, two SIM cards, 15 bank passbooks, two checkbooks, two UPI QR codes, an ATM card, and 11 other types of cards. Over 6,000 people’s data linked to the scam was also recovered.
Widespread Impact
The racket, based in Noida, had duped people across multiple states. Around 20 cases have been registered against the accused in various districts, including Baghpat.
Recognition for Cyber Police
Acknowledging the exceptional work of the Cyber Crime Police Team in cracking the racket, SP Suraj Kumar Rai announced a reward for the team.
