Badaun Councilors Stage ‘Veeru-Style’ Protest, Climb Overhead Water Tank Demanding Solution

Badaun, UP: A unique protest unfolded in Badaun on Monday as city councilors adopted a high-voltage “Veeru-style” stunt from the iconic Bollywood film Sholay. Frustrated by the disruption in water supply, two councilors and the husband of another councilor climbed atop an overhead water tank near Ambedkar Hostel in the Civil Lines area, demanding immediate action.

According to reports, water supply had been interrupted for several days due to leakage issues. Despite assurances from the authorities that the supply would resume within two days, the problem persisted. This prompted Mohit Saxena (Ward 18), Mukesh Sahu (Ward 15), and the husband of councilor Nazreen (Ward 27) to take dramatic action. They claimed that with additional labor, the work could have been completed within the promised timeline, but no action was taken.

Onlookers watched as the three staged their protest atop the tank, declaring that they would not descend until their demands were met. News of the unusual protest quickly reached the Civil Lines police and municipal officials, including Executive Officer Vinay Tripathi, who rushed to the scene. After considerable effort, the councilors were persuaded to come down.

EO Tripathi clarified that the water supply disruption was due to tank cleaning and pressure issues. While tube wells were supplying water in the interim, power supply limitations on the rural feeder also contributed to the problem. Authorities assured that the matter was being addressed.

The incident sparked discussions among residents about whether such a dramatic protest was necessary, as the councilors themselves had the authority to resolve the issue through official channels. Nevertheless, the “Veeru-style” protest became an instant talking point in the city.
