B.Tech Student Commits Suicide by Jumping from Hostel’s Fourth Floor in Greater Noida; Students Protest

Greater Noida, January 24, 2026: In a tragic incident, a B.Tech student, Udit Soni, allegedly took his own life by jumping from the fourth floor of his hostel in the Knowledge Park area on Friday night around 11:30 PM.

Sources reported that Udit, who was reportedly under the influence of alcohol, was reprimanded by the hostel authorities for entering the premises intoxicated. The authorities also sent a video of the incident to his father, which led to further distress. Feeling hurt after being scolded by his father and being threatened with withdrawal from the college, Udit allegedly jumped from the hostel floor.

Udit Soni, a second-year B.Tech student, was a native of Bhognipur, Jhansi. He had reportedly consumed alcohol along with his friends, Chetan and Kuldeep, before returning to the hostel. Following the reprimand and the video being shared with his father, Vijay Soni, Udit was reportedly called home and warned about his academic future.

Immediately after the incident, Udit was rushed to the hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

The incident sparked outrage among fellow students, who staged a protest outside the hostel, raising slogans against the management. Some students even damaged a nearby bus during the demonstration. Police personnel were deployed at the scene to control the situation. Udit’s family was present at the site, and his body has been sent for post-mortem examination.
