Azam Khan’s Life in Jail: No Bed, No Blanket; Wife Tanzin Fatma Speaks Out

Rampur, Uttar Pradesh: Senior Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan is currently serving a seven-year prison sentence in Rampur Jail over a PAN card-related case. Recently, he reportedly had a dispute with jail officials regarding the provision of blankets.

On Monday, Dr. Tanzin Fatma, former Member of Parliament and wife of Azam Khan, visited Rampur Jail to meet him. She was accompanied by their elder son Adeeb Azam and Azam Khan’s sister Nikhat Akhlaq.

Health Status and Jail Conditions
Speaking to the media after the meeting, Tanzin Fatma stated that Azam Khan’s health remains as it was before. She highlighted that he has been provided neither a bed nor a proper sleeping arrangement since the first day of his imprisonment. The jail had previously denied him blankets, leading to a confrontation, and Azam Khan had raised this issue even during a video conferencing court appearance, claiming he was not given blankets to protect against the cold.

Demand for Class-One Facility
Azam Khan has already requested the court, through his lawyers, for Class-One prison facilities. During a previous jail visit, Tanzin Fatma was not allowed to meet him, but this time the meeting took place. However, she could not meet her younger son Abdullah Azam.

Extensive Legal Cases
Azam Khan, a nine-time MLA from Rampur, faces over 100 cases, though he has secured bail in most of them. He and his son Abdullah Azam were again lodged in jail on 17 November.
