Ayodhya Medical College Principal Removed Following Complaints by Six Department Heads

Ayodhya: The long-standing complaints against Dr. Satyajit Verma, Principal of Rajarshi Dashrath Medical College, Ayodhya, have culminated in his removal from the post. Following an inquiry into allegations levelled by six department heads, Dr. Verma has been attached to the office of the Director General, Medical Education and Training (DGME&T).

He has been replaced by Dr. Dinesh Singh Martolia, Head of the Department of Community Medicine at Government Medical College, Kannauj, who has been appointed as the new officiating Principal of the Ayodhya medical college.

Complaints Submitted to Principal Secretary

The action follows a written complaint submitted on September 9 by the heads of six departments to the Principal Secretary, accusing the college administration of serious irregularities. In response, a committee was constituted, which visited the college on December 27 to conduct inspections and examine the allegations.

Meanwhile, in a separate development, the father of a student who died under suspicious circumstances on the college campus filed a complaint before the Lokayukta. Taking cognisance of the matter, the Lokayukta directed the Principal Secretary to constitute a three-member inquiry committee.

Minister Expresses Dissatisfaction During Inspection

On January 12, the minister in charge, Surya Pratap Shahi, conducted an inspection of the medical college. During the visit, he expressed strong displeasure over irregular attendance of doctors and medical staff. Several patients and attendants also complained of delayed treatment and administrative mismanagement, which further highlighted systemic issues within the institution.

Not the First Removal

This is not the first instance of a principal being removed from the medical college. Earlier, Dr. Gyanendra Kumar, the then Principal, was also attached to the DGME&T office on January 16, 2025, following complaints and an official inquiry. Dr. Satyajit Verma had assumed charge after his removal.

The latest administrative action underscores the government’s intent to address complaints related to governance, accountability, and healthcare delivery in state-run medical institutions.
