Ayodhya 2031: Yogi-Modi Duo Unveils Ambitious Plan to Transform the City of Lord Ram

Ayodhya, the holy city of Lord Ram, is rapidly evolving into a world-class spiritual and cultural hub, thanks to a series of development initiatives led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The Ayodhya Master Plan 2031 aims to modernize the city while preserving its spiritual essence, turning it into a global destination for pilgrims and tourists alike.

Master Plan 2031: Building a World-Class City

The Ayodhya Master Plan spans 133.67 square kilometers with a budget exceeding ₹1,000 crore. It focuses on modern urban infrastructure, improved road networks, upgraded drainage systems, and enhanced waste management. From January to June 2025, 24 crore tourists visited Ayodhya, with projections suggesting that by the end of the year, the number could surpass 50 crore visitors.

To handle this influx, new accommodation facilities are being developed, and green spaces are being expanded to provide a serene experience for every visitor.

Ayodhya Greenfield Township

A smart, eco-friendly township is under construction at a cost of ₹2,180 crore, covering 1,407 acres. The project aims to sustainably manage population growth and tourist numbers while offering modern amenities.

Maharshi Valmiki International Airport

Recognizing the need for a modern air hub, the state government has built the Maharshi Valmiki International Airport at a cost of ₹1,450 crore. Operational since 2023, the airport features a 6,000 sq. meter terminal and a runway capable of handling large aircraft, connecting Ayodhya with major national and international destinations.

Ayodhya Dham Junction Railway Station

Redeveloped into a modern three-story facility, the station includes lifts, escalators, a food plaza, and spacious waiting areas, ensuring enhanced convenience for millions of pilgrims.

Outer Ring Road Development

To decongest traffic, a 67.17 km outer ring road is under construction at an estimated cost of ₹3,935 crore. Initially four lanes and expandable to six, it will improve connectivity with Lucknow, Raebareli, Sultanpur, Barabanki, Basti, and Gonda, as well as provide seamless access to national highways.

Ram Ki Paidi Modernization

A ₹24 crore project has upgraded Ram Ki Paidi with a 350-meter-long ghat, a grand gallery for 20,000 visitors, and a small amphitheater. A dedicated selfie point featuring Lord Ram’s statues has also been created for tourists.

Guptar Ghat Redevelopment

The once-neglected Guptar Ghat has been transformed into a lively attraction at an estimated cost of ₹77 crore, featuring a 1 km waterfront, open-air theater, scenic parks, and modern boating facilities.

Hotels and Accommodation Expansion

Major hotel chains are investing over ₹350 crore to increase accommodation options for tourists, boosting visitor comfort and generating local employment.

Cultural Preservation Initiatives

The government is committed to preserving Ayodhya’s cultural heritage, with renovations underway for landmarks like the Ram Katha Museum, Tulsi Memorial, and Parikrama Path. Multi-level parking facilities are also being constructed to ease congestion in high-traffic areas.

The Ayodhya 2031 plan reflects a vision to merge spirituality with modernity, offering a world-class pilgrimage experience while preparing the city to handle growing tourist numbers efficiently.
