Authorities Forget to Put Shaheed Bhagat Singh’s Photo on Welcome Gate in Pilibhit

Pilibhit, 25 February 2026: In a surprising display of negligence, a grand welcome gate named after freedom fighter Shaheed Bhagat Singh has been constructed at the Uttar Pradesh–Uttarakhand border in Pilibhit, but the gate lacks his photograph. While the images of various political leaders adorn the structure, the face of the hero it honors is missing, sparking public outrage.

The welcome gate, built under the district panchayat’s supervision, was meant to pay tribute to the revolutionary. However, a video of the gate went viral on social media, prompting criticism of the authorities for their oversight. Users questioned whether the photos of politicians were considered more important than honoring the nation’s martyr.

Addressing the issue, Additional Chief Officer Dharmendra said, “There is no departmental negligence. Many gates have been built in memory of great personalities, but not all of them feature a photo. At the time of construction, the inclusion of Bhagat Singh’s photo was not in the estimate. The chairman has spoken to us about it, and if possible, we will try to include his photo. Action will be taken if feasible.”

Social media users have widely criticized the decision, noting the irony of political leaders’ images being displayed while the revolutionary, who gave his life for the country, remains unrepresented on a gate built in his name.
